23 Oct When Is The Earliest Snowfall in Minneapolis?
Earliest Snowfall on Record in Minneapolis
Doing a little research through The Weather Channel and Google search, the earliest snowfall on record in Minneapolis was on August 30, 1949. It was only a trace of snow and it happened at the Duluth Airport. I have to say that that’s incredible. I never would have guessed that it was that early. But that goes to show you how important it is to get a snow removal contractor set up as early as possible. Here at KG Landscape, we officially start our snow removal contract season on November 1.
So What Does That Mean For Snowfall This Year?
Well, considering it’s 10/23, we luckily did not beat the earliest snow record in Minneapolis. So we dodged that bullet. However, the weather can change so quickly here in Minnesota, we can never be truly sure. There are a lot of conflicting reports out there about how bad this winter will be. The Farmer’s Almanac says that it will be a very cold and very snowy winter. For what’s it worth, the Farmer’s Almanac was very wrong about last year.
The other big winter weather story for 2015-16 will be El Nino. It’s a weather phenomenon that brings the jet stream out of whack. When that happens, the amount of snow here in the Northern US is projected to decrease. This happens because the cold northernly wind and precipitation that normally hits Minnesota all the time in the winter will not be as brutal. So that’s another piece to keep in mind.
